General X-Ray

Whate are General X-Ray Studies?

The x-ray has been called one of the most significant advances in medical history. It is used in many different ways in medical diagnosis. An x-ray image is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through the body and strikes a sheet of sensitive film placed on the other side of the body.

What are the Common Uses of General X-Ray?

The most common use of general X-ray is to assist your physician in identifying and treating fractures. X-ray images of the skull, spine, joints, and extremities are commonly performed throughout our network of radiology facilities. Bone x-rays are an essential tool in orthopedic surgery such as spinal repair, joint replacements, or fracture reductions. X-ray images can be used to diagnose and monitor the progression of degenerative diseases such as arthritis.

How Does an X-Ray Work?

Routine X-Rays involve exposing a part of the body to a small dose of radiation to produce and image of the internal organs. Depending on the area of your body to be x-rayed, you may need to change into a gown upon arrival. When you have an x-ray, it will usually require at least 2 views of the body part to be taken. Occasionally, multiple views are taken.

How do I Prepare for a General X-Ray Study?

Dress so no metal is in the area of interest. General X-rays require no preparation.

How do I get my Results?

At NVRA, our radiologists will interpret your images promptly and the results will be forwarded to your physician either by phone, fax, and mail and or delivered electronically. Your referring physician will share the results with you.
