Commitment to Excellence in Diagnostic Imaging at Naugatuck Valley Radiology Associates

March 13, 2025

At Naugatuck Valley Radiology (NVRA), commitment to diagnostic imaging excellence is our #1 core value. If you are considering diagnostic imaging in Connecticut, here is what you need to know about imaging excellence and high-quality radiology services.

What Is Diagnostic Imaging?

Diagnostic imaging is a non-invasive technology that allows doctors to create images of tissues and organs inside patients’ bodies to diagnose illnesses and injuries.

The Importance of High-Quality Radiology Services

High-quality images produced by a radiology team are essential for an accurate diagnosis, treatment plan, and follow-up care.

Why Excellence in Radiology Matters for Patient Outcomes

Poor image quality can lead to misdiagnoses, which can prevent a patient from getting the care they need for good health. Unclear images can also cause doctors to miss abnormalities, known as pathologies. Misdiagnoses and missed pathologies can lead to poor outcomes, unnecessary repeat examinations, and increased costs.

How NVRA Upholds the Highest Standards in Imaging Services

The medical community holds itself to the highest standards for quality, safety, and patient care in their imaging procedures. NVRA achieves and maintains excellence in diagnostic imaging through accreditation, staying current with research and development, and improved patient experience.

Because of our commitment to excellence and high radiology care standards, NVRA has earned the coveted American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation for MRI and other types of imaging. To receive ACR accreditation for MRI, NVRA had to pass rigorous testing, including a system performance evaluation to ensure that our MRI is functioning well, clinical imaging on humans, and “phantom testing” on medical testing devices. This testing ensures that we provide the highest quality MRI testing possible.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is an imaging technique that uses powerful magnets and computers to create three-dimensional (3D) images of soft tissues, organs, and bones. MRI is best for imaging the brain, spinal cord, joints, and soft tissues. Doctors often order MRIs to help them make complex diagnoses, such as those affecting soft tissues or the brain and spinal cord.

CT Scans (Computed Tomography)

Computed tomography (CT) scans use X-rays and computers to create 3D images of bones, organs, and tissues. Doctors use CT scans to help diagnose blood clots, bone fractures, and organ injuries.

X-rays: Essential Diagnostic Tools for Everyday Health

X-rays were the first type of medical imaging, and they remain an essential diagnostic tool today. Doctors often use X-rays before ordering other imaging tests, as X-rays are fast and affordable.

Ultrasound: Safe, Real-Time Imaging for Various Conditions

Ultrasound provides quick and safe real-time images. Doctors opt for ultrasounds to monitor pregnancies, guide biopsies, and diagnose conditions affecting the abdomen, pelvis, heart, blood vessels, and other soft tissues.

How NVRA Stands Among the Leaders in Diagnostic Imaging

With expertise in all types of imaging, from MRI to digital mammography and more, NVRA is the area leader in diagnostic imaging. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation and believe that creating strong partnerships enhances quality and accessibility.

Patient-Centered Care in Radiology

Patient-centered care puts the patient’s needs and priorities first. After all, medical imaging exists to help improve patients' everyday lives.

Creating a Comfortable and Supportive Imaging Experience

NVRA creates a comfortable, supportive imaging experience by:

  • Respecting the needs, preferences, and values of each of our patients
  • Coordinating and integrating care whenever possible
  • Providing clear, usable information and support
  • Attending to their physical comfort
  • Creating the highest quality diagnostic images possible

ACR® Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) Accreditation

ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) accreditation means an imaging facility has passed a comprehensive assessment of every aspect of imaging. Facilities that apply for DICOE accreditation must already be accredited for every type of imaging they offer; they must also participate in specific databases and registries that improve imaging, and pass an on-site survey.

NVRA is proud that our facilities and imaging team were the first to be named an accredited ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) facility in Connecticut.

Compliance with National Diagnostic Imaging Standards

Medical imaging is incredibly complex. Properly using and maintaining equipment, hiring qualified people, protecting workers and patients from radiation, and patient care can all play a role in quality medical imaging. Adhering to national guidelines and regulations ensures high-quality, safe medical imaging.

Why Choose NVRA for Your Radiology Needs?

Designating it as a DICOE-accredited facility, the American College of Radiology determined that Naugatuck Valley Radiology met rigorous standards, including high personnel qualifications, commitment to excellence, equipment performance, imaging safety, and quality control.
