Screening Services: Preventative Care at a Low Cost

DEXA Bone Density

A bone density scan (also referred to as DEXA), is an x-ray exam that identifies:

  • Normal or low bone density
  • Osteopenia
  • Osteoporosis

Why get a DEXA scan?

  • As many as one in two postmenopausal women and one in five older men are at risk of an osteoporosis-related fracture
  • The lower your bone density, the greater your risk of fracturing a bone

DEXA bone density scans are non-invasive, painless and covered by most insurance companies. If you do not have insurance or DEXA scans are not covered under your insurance plan, we offer this service at a discounted self-pay rate of $75.

3D Digital Mammography

Why your annual scheduled mammogram is important:

  • A mammogram is used to detect breast cancer and other abnormalities
  • Breast cancer can be detected at its earliest stages
  • Early detection increases breast cancer survival by 97%
  • The American Cancer Society advises all women, beginning at age 40, to have an annual screening mammogram
  • 3D mammography allows doctors to see the breast tissue more clearly in three dimensions

How long is a Mammogram?

Mammography exams only take about 15 minutes and are covered by most insurance companies.

If you do not have insurance or mammography is not covered under your insurance plan, we offer this service at a discounted, self-pay rate of $200.

CT Cardiac Scoring

What is the importance of the CT Cardiac Scoring (also referred to as a Calcium Scoring)?

  • It evaluates the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries. Coronary arteries are the vessels that supply oxygen-containing blood to the heart.

Your healthcare provider may recommend a heart scoring  if you have risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) including:

  • High Cholesterol
  • Family history of heart attacks
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Current or former smoker
  • Obesity
  • Physical inactivity

CT Cardiac Scoring is not covered by insurance; however, we offer this service at a discounted, self-pay rate of $99

CT Low Dose Screening

CT Low Dose Lung Screening is for individuals who have a high risk of developing lung cancer.

You should discuss heart and lung scans  with your healthcare provider if you:

  • Are between 50 and 80 years old
  • Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years
  • Have a history of heavy smoking
  • Have a history of other risk factors including: family history, smoking exposure, tuberculosis, COPD, occupational exposure or poor air ventilation

CT Low Dose Lung Screening is covered by most insurance plans if you meet the above criteria but if you do not have insurance or it is not a covered benefit, we offer this exam at a discounted, self-pay rate of $250.

Early detection saves lives. Discuss these screening services with your healthcare provider today and contact us at  Naugatuck Valley Radiology.
